“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”

Proverbs 24:3-4

I am a total homebody. It’s no secret. My friends and family all know that I don’t really like to go out. I will, of course, on occasion go out to dinner or visit someone else’s home. But for me (and my husband) home is my sanctuary. It is where we are most comfortable; it is where we can be ourselves; it is where we escape from the stresses of the world. For the most part we leave our work at the front door (except when I work from home, and/or he has to handle work calls on his day off).

We also rarely travel. A lot of people our age put a lot of time and money into traveling the world. But not us. Sometimes we will take trips to the family lake house in Vermont; and for our honeymoon we went on a nine-day cruise to New England and Canada. But for us, we would rather put our time and money into making our house (by house I mean the duplex we rent in the Bronx) a home.

Since our home is our sanctuary, we want it to be comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. It starts with the neighborhood we live in. I already mentioned that we live in the Bronx— one of the five boroughs of New York City, for anyone who doesn’t know where it is. But I should be more specific. We live in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. Most people would describe Riverdale as not very Bronx-like. Meaning there are a lot of houses, rather than apartment buildings (although there are some beautiful co-ops in the area); tree-lines streets; and beautiful parks such as Van Cortlandt Park and Henry Hudson Park. Riverdale was our compromise, because when I met my husband I live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and he was already in the Bronx. To me, Riverdale is an extension of the Upper West Side (my absolute favorite neighborhood in all of NYC). It was important to us to live in a neighborhood where we felt comfortable, especially because I like to go for walks and “explore.”

Equally is important is having a nice interior. I have taken many-a-trips to HomeGoods and JossandMain.com, looking for the right pieces to fill our home, and make it warm and inviting. Not just for us, but for our very occasional guests.

So yes, I am a homebody. I like to be at home; it is a sanctuary for my husband and me. In the future I will post more blog posts and pictures of my home. ❤️
